Project Servator aims to deter, detect and disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public. Our officers are experienced and specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs that someone is planning or preparing to commit an act of crime.

We believe that ‘Together, we’ve got it covered’, so we work with partners, including other police forces, businesses and the public, to continue to protect London and everyone who lives, works or visits here and to make it a difficult place for criminals and terrorists to operate.

Project Servator has been successful in gathering intelligence that has assisted Counter Terrorism Units across the UK in investigating and preventing acts of terror. Our work has resulted in many arrests for a multitude of offences and is responsible for removing firearms, knives and drugs from London’s streets.

Project Servator deployments are normal police operations:

  • Project Servator deployments are normal police operations designed to disrupt a range of criminal activity. They are designed to be unpredictable and officers can turn up anywhere at any time. Don’t be surprised or alarmed if you see them and weren’t expecting to. Feel free to talk to the officers to find out more.

What you can expect to see when deployments are happening:

  • Project Servator deployments are normal police deployments, but they are unpredictable, so the public can expect to see them pop up anywhere and at any time. Don’t be surprised or alarmed if you see them and weren’t expecting to. We encourage the public to talk to the officers involved if they want to find out more.
  • The number of police officers involved will vary from deployment to deployment. Not all aspects of the deployments will be apparent. For example, in addition to uniformed police officers, there will be plain clothes officers present, along with CCTV, ANPR and other measures that may not be visible to the public. In London, plain clothed officers on Servator deployments always work with uniformed police officers in high-vis jackets.
  • If there’s a Project Servator deployment in the area, there’s nothing to worry about. As part of their activity, those involved will talk to the public and local businesses to let them know what they are doing and remind them to be vigilant and report any suspicious or unusual behaviour to police. Officers may also hand out leaflets explaining what Project Servator is or put Project Servator posters on display. Working with the community is a vital part of making Project Servator a success and you should always know if a Project Servator deployment is happening – this is not a covert policing tactic.

Yes, our event and charity partner is The Royal Parks. Money raised from Hyde Park Winter Wonderland goes back into maintaining Hyde Park and the other eight Royal parks across London.

Throughout the live events industry, the environmental impact of our work is becoming a hot topic. From the way we generate power to what we do with our waste it is clear that we have a responsibility to minimise our impact on the planet.

At Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, we take this responsibility very seriously and are continuously working with our partners and suppliers to explore and innovate ways of lessening the ecological footprint of the event, both globally and locally. The work we are doing in this area ranges from consulting with ecology consultants to ensure we aren’t disturbing the local bat population through to employing cutting edge power monitoring and battery technology.

Traders and operators are encouraged to produce products from sustainable sources where possible and the vast majority of the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland infrastructure is permanent or reused year after year.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland uses local staff and crew where possible and encourage traders and operators to do the same.

PWR Events are proud to be actively producing sustainable events and are certified to ISO 20121, the International Standard for sustainability in event management.

Fuel

We have introduced Green D+ Bio Diesel across all of our Generators and Plant. This means that 100% of all fuel used at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland no longer comes from Crude Oil, but instead comes from Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil.

These oils are derived from food industry waste, fish processing waste and used cooking oil. It is calculated that for every 350 litres of Green D+ burned; Carbon output is reduced by 1000kg, Particulate matter is reduced by 77% and Nitrogen Oxides are reduced by 29%.

We see this as a major undertaking for an event of our size and status and hope that other events follow our lead.

Power

Initial research suggests that inefficient generator use is common at events in the UK and that power use can represent up to 70% of carbon footprint.

Knowing this, we have installed power monitoring on all our generator farms throughout the park which in turn allows us to continuously monitor our generators and generator clusters to ensure that no generator is running unnecessarily or inefficiently. We also use power monitoring on specific areas and rides throughout the event.

We are also able to use the data from power monitoring to explore innovative solutions to our power use. This year in partnership with Power Logistics, we are experimenting with innovative battery technology to power certain attractions and help reduce our dependence on diesel-powered generators.

Waste

We are working closely with our waste partners to explore how we deal with the amount of waste generated by the event and have set ourselves some ambitious and stringent targets for recycling. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland will provide suitable facilities for visitors, traders, and operators to recycle their waste.

During the event, all our general waste is used for energy recovery. Also, all our waste oil from the catering stalls is picked up and recycled into biofuel, and any pallets or reusable timber is donated to upcycling projects. We continue to look at our procurement as part of the hierarchy of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. As part of this, we have banned Polystyrene and other single use plastics (i.e. straws, cutlery, sauce sachets etc.) as well as banning the sale of helium filled foil balloons. The reusable cup and mug scheme at the Bavarian Village has a huge impact on reducing our waste. Moreover, by introducing more bottle refill points and encouraging staff to have their own reusable bottle, we hope to further reduce the number of plastic bottles used on site for both guests and staff.

Light monitoring

We monitor our light pollution impact on the local ecology of the park by conducting several lighting audits to ensure that the lighting is not impacting on the local nocturnal wildlife – like bats for example. All site wide lighting and the vast majority of ride lighting uses low energy LED bulbs.

Sound monitoring

Noise monitoring stations are installed within the event and at several locations outside the event with any excessive noise sources being rectified from our central control.

Travel and Transport

Travel to the event is considered one of the largest contributors to event’s carbon footprint and environmental impact, which is beyond the direct control of event organiser, therefore, we strongly advise our customers to travel to Hyde Park Winter Wonderland on foot, bike or by public transport when possible.

Our deliveries are tracked, and we are currently using this data to produce a combined delivery plan to reduce transportation.

Ground & Tree Protection

Working closely alongside our partners at The Royal Parks, we ensure that Hyde Park itself is fully protected from the impact of the event. This includes covering the entire footprint with durable flooring to protect the turf sub-structure and hoarding off ‘Protected Areas’ that contain a large number of trees.

We also locate all tented or heavy structures far away from any tree roots, do not hang anything from the trees themselves and ensure that no uplighters into the trees are used.
